Preserve, save and share your treasured memories at Preservation Station—a DIY digitization lab.

Located in the Reisterstown Branch, this free do-it-yourself digitization lab gives customers the opportunity to digitize films, tapes and photos, and save to an external hard drive, USB drive or cloud storage for personal archiving.

Professional-grade equipment and software is supplied to digitize the following formats:

  • VHS
  • VHS-C
  • MiniDVs
  • DVCAM
  • Audio cassettes
  • Floppy discs
  • Slides
  • 35MM negatives
  • Photos (up to 8” by 10”)

Plan Your Visit

Your appointment starts with a brief training session on personal archiving from library staff. Once trained, you can independently work on your project for up to three hours at a time to accommodate real-time transfer of video and audio. Staff remain readily available to assist as needed.

Bring a USB drive or hard drive with enough storage space to store your images, or save to your personal cloud storage.
