Bookmobile: Adult and Community

Adult and Community Engagement mobile visits cover a wide range of Baltimore County communities with a focus on serving adults, including senior retirement homes, assisted living facilities and community outreach opportunities.

Bookmobile Services

The Bookmobile houses a collection of borrowable materials, including:

  • New and popular titles
  • Large type books
  • Audiobooks on CD and Playaway
  • Magazines
  • DVDs

Materials Requests

You can request any title from the catalog to be sent to a vehicle for pickup at any scheduled bookmobile visit, by selecting Mobile-Adult as your branch when placing a hold request. You may also ask staff on the Bookmobile or in any branch to request books or other materials for you to pick up on a vehicle. Not sure what to read, watch or listen to? Request a Be Surprised Bundle by calling 410-887-7586.

Returns

Vehicles can accept returns from any branch, and materials checked out from a mobile vehicle may be returned to any branch.

Fees

While the majority of library services are free, fees do apply to lost or damaged items. Fees may be paid on the bookmobiles by using a personal check or money order—cash is not accepted. Fees may also be paid at any branch or online by logging in to your account.

One-on-One Personal Assistance

Mobile vehicle staff can provide one-on-one personal assistance to download e-books, audiobooks and e-magazines during our scheduled stops. Book a My Librarian appointment online or by calling 410-887-7586. A library card is required to download materials. Please come prepared with username and password information for any software or apps.

Lobby Stop

The Lobby Stop service brings library resources directly to long-term care facilities, making it easier for residents to access library materials. Customers can browse books, movies and other materials, place requests and receive friendly, personalized support from library staff. Library staff are available to provide recommendations, personalized service and library cards. Staff also offer fun and engaging library programming to create opportunities for learning and connection within the community. To learn more, call 410-887-7586.

Mobile Library Support Center

The Mobile Library Support Center (MLSC) is an outreach initiative designed to bring essential library and partner services to underserved communities to connect residents with valuable community resources and information. Library staff along with partner organizations share resources, information and referrals with community members on a variety of topics including public benefits, legal services, workforce, health, digital skills and finance. In this office on wheels, partners may provide various giveaways, including masks, hand sanitizer, Narcan and feminine hygiene products. Any nonprofit or government agency interested in partnering with us on the MLSC should email mobile-adult@bcpl.net or call 410-887-7586.

Notary Services

Mobile vehicle staff are trained notaries public and can witness the signing of legal documents such as wills, deeds or powers of attorney during our scheduled stops. Learn more about these notary services. To schedule the notary service, Book a My Librarian appointment online or by calling 410-887-7586.
