B Joyful! We’re Celebrating National Library Week
Baltimore County Public Library joins libraries across the country in celebrating National Library Week, which runs Sunday, April 19, through Saturday, April 25. As your community connector, we are looking forward to highlighting the value of the library and the many benefits of a library card.
This year's American Library Association’s National Library Week theme is “Find Your Joy,” which is an invitation for people of all backgrounds to explore and discover what sparks joy in them at the library. In celebration, we’ve created a new “B” logo, B Joyful!
A Week of Joy
Each day of the week highlights vital pieces of the library, including:
Monday—The Right to Read Day. We encourage you to visit any of our 19 branches and check out your favorite book, whether it’s a current hit or a childhood classic. While you’re there, grab a B Joyful magnet as a thank you for supporting our library system and the joy you bring to our library. Available while supplies last.
Tuesday—National Library Workers Day. Staff are the core of who we are, and the people who bring countless hours of joy to our community. We invite you to stop in and thank a staff member for their hard work. You can also fill out a customer comment card online or inside the branches.
Wednesday—National Library Outreach Day. Baltimore County Public Library has two mobile libraries, a Mobile Library Support Center and the STREAM Machine, which visits neighborhoods and senior centers weekly. This year, we’re combining National Outreach Day and Earth Day, also April 22, with a flower giveaway. Teens at our Woodlawn and North Point branches decorated 50 flowerpots, which are filled with daisies—the flower of joy—and given away to customers at Morningside House of Satyr Hill.
Thursday—Take Action for Libraries Day. Use this day to advocate and support your public library system. An easy way to do that is to donate to the Foundation for Baltimore County Public Library. The Foundation provides resources—above and beyond the limitations of public funding—to enrich the library’s commitment to empower the citizens of Baltimore County to explore, learn, create and connect.
More Ways to Celebrate
In addition to these specialty days, you can celebrate National Library Week by signing up for a library card in person or online, attending one of our programs or checking something out from the library’s collection. We also encourage you to follow our Facebook, Instagram, LinkedIn and X (formerly Twitter) pages and download this image to use as your temporary profile picture to raise awareness and support for the library. Come “Be All In” with us this National Library Week.
