Step Into STEM Over Spring Break

  • April 09, 2025
  • By Baltimore County Public Library

Spring break is right around the corner, and we hope you’re adding a visit to one of our 18 open branches to your spring break check list. We’re STEMming with excitement about seeing you! Along with our large collection of books, CDs, DVDs, video games, and Library of Things items, our branches are offering a range of free STEM-related programming and other hands-on activities. A few special programs include:

Professor Mike’s Science and Magic Show
Elementary
Monday, April 14, 2 p.m. (Rosedale Branch)
Thursday, April 17, 2 p.m. (Cockeysville Branch)
Saturday, April 19, 2 p.m. (Parkville-Carney Branch)

Professor Mike explores the wonders of science through the lens of magic and juggling. He engages his guests with captivating science experiments, incredible magic tricks, and lots of laughter, all while encouraging audience participation. Ideal for children 10 and younger, this fun-filled experience combines learning with entertainment, making science both educational and exhilarating.

Captivating Creatures
Preschool–Adult
Monday, April 14, 2 p.m. (Woodlawn Branch)
Tuesday, April 15, 2 p.m. (Reisterstown Branch)
Wednesday, April 16, 2 p.m. (Towson Branch)
Thursday, April 17, 2 p.m. (Sollers Point Branch)
Friday, April 18, 2 p.m. (Essex Branch)
Saturday, April 19, 2 p.m. (Rosedale Branch)

Get an up-close look at amazing animals in this fun, hands-on experience. Meet reptiles, snakes, ferrets and more while discovering the science behind their unique traits. Learn about their habitats, behaviors, and cool adaptations through interactive demonstrations and fun facts.

We hope to show kids that STEM, and learning in general, can be fun and exciting and not something that happens just in the classroom. With hands-on activities, children can explore, learn, create and connect. Parents will love that the library offers a screen-free, productive way for kids to stay engaged over the break—no planning required!

STEM Adventure Giveaway

Keep the spring break fun going with our STEM Adventure Giveaway. From Saturday, April 12 to Saturday, April 19, simply visit any library branch, borrow a physical item and you will be entered to win a downtown Baltimore STEM Adventure prize pack. Prizes are as follows:

  • Three (3) lucky winners will receive four (4) tickets to National Aquarium and a $25 Shake Shack gift card.
  • Three (3) lucky winners will receive four (4) tickets to Port Discovery and a $25 Shake Shack gift card.

This contest is open to anyone who uses a child or adult library card to borrow at least one item between Saturday, April 12 and Saturday, April 19; more items does not mean more entries. Winners will be notified via email by Friday, April 25, and will be able to pick up their prize at their home branch. The odds of winning are based on the number of qualifying participants. Employees of Baltimore County Public Library and their immediate family and household members of such employees are not eligible. Students who use their student account identification are also not eligible to win.

Dedicated Spaces

Come for the programs but stay for the spaces. Each branch has dedicated spaces for children, tweens and teens. This includes video game systems, age-appropriate furniture, educational toys and more. For families with younger learners, check out Storyville, the child-sized play-and-learn villages in the Rosedale and Woodlawn branches that feature developmentally appropriate books, toys, and activities designed to promote early literacy and school readiness skills for children ages birth to 5.
