Beanies and Basketball. Get Ready for the Winter Reading Challenge
Get ready to read, score and win! The Winter Reading Challenge is back by popular demand. We’re once again teaming up with Towson University Athletics to offer a "library day" at two of their basketball games in 2026. Children in Kindergarten through 12th grade who participate in the challenge can win a complimentary ticket to one of the games and a winter beanie, while supplies last. It runs Monday, December 1, through Saturday, January 31.
The Game Plan
Families can register on Beanstack, download the game board (PDF) or pick one up at any of our 19 branches. For every 20 minutes read, color one basketball. When all 20 basketballs are colored in, submit the paper game board to a library staff member to get a completion sticker. Those playing on Beanstack do not need to come in for the completion sticker.
Read to Score
When the 400-minute goal is met, score:
- A Baltimore County Public Library pom-pom beanie, while supplies last.
- One, free child ticket to a Towson University basketball game.
- One free popcorn during the game.
- Discounted group rate for accompanying adults, family and friends.
You’ll be able to choose to attend one of these fan-favorite matchups:
- Sunday, February 22, at 1 p.m., Towson Women’s Basketball versus Stony Brook
- Saturday, February 28, at 2 p.m., Towson Men’s Basketball versus Campbell
Once at the game, participants can visit the library table to receive a foam finger to show their library pride while cheering on the Tigers. Sounds like a slam dunk to us!
Get Started
If you need help picking out what to read, we have a What to Read Next section that has today’s newest selections. Our library staff is also happy to help you find a book that interests you.
