Library Is the Cure for Winter Boredom
While the winter break is only a little more than a week, it can feel like an eternity for families looking for something to occupy their time. Let Baltimore County Public Library help! We’re more than just a library, we’re a cure for boredom. We have events, crafts, shows and even a fun challenge that will help families of all ages enjoyably pass the time!
Winter Break Highlights
They say winter is more than a season, it is a celebration. With 18 open branches spread out across the County, there will be heaps of activities for customers to enjoy. View our full list of programs, or a few special programs highlighted below:
- Kwanzaa Live With Culture Queen—A fresh approach to celebrating the seven principles of Kwanzaa through interactive music, movement, storytelling and Black history-themed games.
- Winter Snowflakes Puppet Show—Beale Street Puppets perform their whimsical winter program with their merry marionettes. Great for families and children of all ages.
- Snapology Presents: Mining and Building—Bring “Minecraft” to life using LEGO bricks. Create your own world, including animals, creepers and your very own Minecraft character.
- Noon Year's Eve—Celebrate the beginning of a new year by participating in fun New Year's Eve-themed activities and crafts.
Winter Reading Challenge Returns
For a second year, we are partnering with Towson University Athletics to offer a "library night" at two of their basketball games in winter 2024. Children in kindergarten through fifth grade can win a free ticket to one of the games by taking part in our Winter Reading Challenge. It runs through Saturday, January 13. Families can register on Beanstack, download the game board (PDF) or pick one up at any of our 18 branches. Visit our other blog post for full contest rules and an additional prize.
Stay Cozy in Storyville
It does not get much cozier than Storyville. Our child-sized villages in the Rosedale and Woodlawn branches feature developmentally-appropriate books, toys and activities designed to promote early literacy and school readiness skills for children ages birth to 5. They are open Monday through Thursday, 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. and Friday and Saturday, 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.
Sweeter Than Candy Canes
