Celebrate STEM Festival at the Library
STEM and stories. Two areas we want our younger customers to dive into when they come into the library. That’s why we’re proud to once again partner with the Maryland STEM Festival for their upcoming month of celebration, October 13 through November 11. The 2023 theme is STEM-ertainment, focusing on how children can have fun while learning about science, technology, engineering and math.
Celebrate With Us
We have a slew of programs for all ages over the course of the month. Some highlights include Celebrate STEM: Coding and Baltimore Museum of Industry Presents: Design It—Balls and Tracks. A four-week course offered at our Woodlawn Branch where participants learn to code to create their own computer games. The Baltimore Museum of Industry presents two unique programs based around electricity and design at several of our branches. Search our event calendar to find one near you. Anyone who participates in one of our STEM programs receives a prize, including a sticker, bracelet or a T-shirt.
Year-Round Fun
STEM education does not stop when the festival ends. The library offers relevant programming year-round, just click on the STEM tab under event types on the event search page. We are also starting STEM Stations; 22 different activities that will travel throughout the system, like liquid crystals, animation, photo negatives and more. We encourage you to try them all!
Our Owings Mills and Woodlawn branches have permanent STREAM spaces. These are designated areas filled with games, books, art supplies and other materials kids can use in-branch to explore science, technology, engineering, art and math. We also have digital resources that children can explore from the comfort of their homes. Check out LinkedIn Learning for help in business, creative skillsets or technology and National Geographic for Kids for various pictures, projects and topics of conversation. For the older learners, we offer Science Resource Center and Gale in Context through our digital database.
Can’t get enough? We’ve created a booklist that could help that creative mind start churning. Choose any cover to place a hold. Happy reading!
