It's always interesting to hear what writers like to read and Denny shares some of her favorites here by answering the following "the book that..." questions.
Was the first book I bought with my own money:
Oh, my. That’s a hard one to remember—but most likely, it was one of three:
- "The Color Purple" by Alice Walker
- "A Wrinkle in Time" by Madeleine L’Engle
- "The World According to Garp" by John Irving
Had the most lasting impression on me:
In response to this question, I can never list just one (sorry!):
- "The Color Purple" by Alice Walker
- "Atlas Shrugged" by Ayn Rand
- "The Secret Life of Violet Grant" by Beatriz Williams
I am currently recommending:
- "Queen of Exiles" by Vanessa Riley
- "The Last Train to Key West" by Chanel Cleeton
- "All The Sinners Bleed" by S. A. Cosby
- "Take My Hand" by Dolen Perkins Valdez
- "The First Ladies" by Marie Benedict and Victoria Christopher Murray
- "Lady Tan’s Circle of Women" by Lisa See
Needs to be made into a TV series or movie:
"All The Sinners Bleed" by S.A. Cosby
I read very slowly because I didn’t want it to end:
I read slowly, period, so any book I read takes a while for me to finish, but "The Love Songs of W.E.B. Du Bois" by Honoree Fanonne Jeffers.
Had me LOL (in parts):
"Harlem Shuffle" by Colson Whitehead
Had me in tears:
"The Last Train to Key West" by Chanel Cleeton
Has my favorite character of all time:
"A Wrinkle in Time" by Madeleine L’Engle (Actually, there are three: Mrs. Whatsit, Mrs. Who and Mrs. Which.)
I’m currently reading:
I’m reading an early copy of a wonderful biographical historical:"The Queen of Sugar Hill: A Novel of Hattie McDaniel" by ReShonda Tate, coming from William Morrow, January 30, 2024.
