Summer Reading Challenge 

A Universe of Stories

Reach for the stars with our Summer Reading Challenge, taking place from June 17 through September 1.  This year’s theme, "A Universe of Stories," features a variety of events and programs to encourage participants of all ages to explore, learn, create and connect through books, programs and activities—all while earning points for a chance to win some valuable prizes. Watch the video to learn more. 

Register and Play 

For kids, there are two ways to play.

Play online with Beanstack—an interactive game board that tracks your activity to earn badges for points.

Stop by any branch beginning June 18 and pick up a Summer Reading Challenge booklet, complete with a game board, fun activities, coloring sheet and coupons from local businesses.

A lineup of space-themed prizes.

Earn 20 points to win your choice of a book or a Universe of Stories tote bag. Any kid earning 20 points is entered into a prize drawing with each branch giving away the following:

Birth to 10 Years Old

Adults Can Play Too

Adults can play using Beanstack too! Register and then read, write a review or complete activities to earn 20 points to be automatically entered into a drawing, with each branch giving away a $25 Visa gift card. Earn just four points to be entered for one grand prize of a $250 Visa gift card, complete with books, library-themed gifts and more.

Prize drawings take place on Tuesday, September 3. Winners will be contacted by phone or email by Friday, September 6. Kids prizes are randomly assigned to each winner with the winner having the option to accept or decline upon prize notification.

Summer Reading Challenge Kickoff Festival

Join 92Q and Ravens Poe at the Summer Reading Challenge Kickoff Festival on Sunday, June 16 for live entertainment, face painting, craft activities and giveaways at the Owings Mills Branch. 

Make Music Day

Celebrate Make Music Day on Friday, June 21 with live performances happening throughout the day at all branches.

Lunch in the Library

Each weekday from June 20 to August 23 select branches will provide free, nutritious meals to those ages 18 and younger. Lunch in the Library is offered in conjunction with the Food and Nutrition Service, an agency of the U.S. Department of Agriculture, and the Baltimore County Public Schools Office of Food and Nutrition Services. 

Note: Lunches will not be served on July 4.
