Now is the Time: Complete the 2020 Census
March 25, 2020 | By Baltimore County Public Library
The 2020 Census is happening now, and completing it is fast and easy—respondents can complete the 2020 Census online, by phone or by mail.
Your Response is Important
The 2020 Census is important because responses help to determine congressional representation for each state and guide how billions of dollars in public, private and not-for-profit resources are distributed across the country for the next 10 years.
Those funds are used for critical services and can shape many different aspects of your community like:
- Emergency response
- Fire departments
- Health care
Responses are Mandatory and Confidential
The Census is mandated by the U.S. Constitution in Article 1, Section 2: The U.S. has counted its population every 10 years since 1790.
The U.S. Census Bureau is bound by law to protect your answers and keep them strictly confidential. The law ensures that your private information is never published and that your answers cannot be used against you by any government agency or court. Your Census responses are kept anonymous and are used only to produce statistics.
Getting a complete and accurate count in 2020 requires everyone's help. There are many ways for individuals, businesses, community organizations and others to play a part.
