Here’s a look back at 2018 and the games that kept us playing. It was a great year for gaming—with improved graphics, open worlds ripe for exploration, well-written stories where decisions matter, memorable characters voiced by talented actors and video game companies continuing to up the bar—there were a lot to choose from as favorites. Here are some of the best released this year.

God of War

God of War (PS4)
Kratos has finished his vengeance on Mount Olympus and is now living among Norse Gods and monsters. He must quell the rage that boils within him and learn to care for his son.

Spider-Man (PS4)
Web-slinging around a fully realized New York City sandbox has never been more fun, but danger is everywhere as Spidey faces some of his most well-known villains.

Red Dead Redemption Two

Red Dead Redemption 2 (PS4 and Xbox One)

Assassin's Creed Odyssey

Assassin’s Creed: Odyssey (PS4 and Xbox One)
Play as Alexios or Kassandra in lush and vibrant ancient Greece, where dynamic combat, epic sea battles and mythological creatures await. In true Assassin’s Creed style, you can use stealth or assassination to your advantage, but now you can also take things head-on as a fierce Spartan warrior.

Super Smash Brothers Ultimate

Super Smash Bros. Ultimate (Nintendo Switch)
Play as some of your favorite video game characters as you and up to seven of your friends battle your way to be the very best. Featuring some of the most beloved heroes, including Link, Pikachu, the Super Mario Brothers, Mega Man, Sonic and Pac-Man.

Vampyr game play

Vampyr (PS4 and Xbox One)
Dr. Jonathan Reid is living in London in 1918, when his world turns upside down as he is transformed into a creature of the night. It is up to the player to make choices. Will Jonathan choose to be physician and savior or give in to his darker nature?

Monster Hunter World

Monster Hunter: World (PS4 and Xbox One)
Find a fierce and formidable giant monster wandering through a beautiful landscape and take it down to craft better armor and weapons. If it gets too tough, a fun multiplayer mode allows a few more players into your game to help with the hunt.

Shadow of the Colossus

Shadow of the Colossus (Remastered, PS4)
A game that was originally released in 2005 and considered one of the greatest games of all time, it was remastered in high definition and re-released. Play as Wander, as you must travel by horseback through the land and defeat the 16 collosi that live there.
