"Art for Charity" – A Benefit for the Foundation for BCPL
Already thinking about holiday shopping? A beautiful piece of artwork
not only makes a wonderful gift, its purchase can also benefit a great cause
– the Foundation for Baltimore County Public Library! Local artist Pamela
Miller has generously selected the Foundation for BCPL as her designated
charity for the entire fourth quarter of 2009. Throughout October, November
and December, 30 percent of all sales made on
www.pmillerabstractart.com
(and at the artist’s discretion, her other discount outlets) will go to the
foundation.
After her successful career in technology, in 2006 Pamela Miller became a
full-time artist and this year launched “Art for Charity.” The foundation is
grateful to be among the first beneficiaries of this fantastic initiative.
Please consider patronizing this talented artist by visiting her Web site

Branch Briefs ▬▬▬▬
One Maryland One Book
Reading is often a solitary pursuit. But imagine if everyone in Maryland
read the same great book at the same time. What kind of conversations could
you have and with whom could you connect or reconnect in your community?
The Maryland Center for the Book, a program of the Maryland Humanities
Council, invites you to be a part of Maryland’s only statewide community
reading program – One Maryland One Book. Pick up a copy of this year’s
selected book, Song Yet Sung by James McBride, and join one of the book
discussions at the following branches:
One Maryland One Book is a program of the Maryland Humanities Council,
funded in part by the Institute of Museum and Library Services, LSTA grant
funds, through the Division of Library Development & Services, Maryland
State Department of Education.

including years as vice president and president. Currently he serves on the
board of the Foundation for BCPL in addition to library board positions at
the state level.

A-Mazing … In June, the Towson Branch officially unveiled its new outdoor
Dragon Maze with a performance by mime Piccolo Pete (Mark Jaster), dragon
crafts, Renaissance music and an opportunity for everyone to explore the
“playable art feature.” Artists for the cement maze were Maryland artist
Sydney Hopkins, who originated the design, and Rachel Bruce, implementer of
the giant stencil cut. Hunt Valley Contractors did the concrete work and
staining. In this photo, Alex counts the dragon’s teeth.
