Search Catalog BCPL has Chromebook laptops which customers can borrow for seven days. Chromebooks have software pre-installed for your convenience. In addition, the following is true of BCPL's Chromebooks:

  • They are laptops but can convert to tablets

  • They have a touch screen with a flip-stand that can also flip all the way back and lay flat like a tablet

  • They come with a Neoprene sleeve and a charger

  • They have two USB ports and one HDMI port

  • They have a high definition webcam and microphone

  • They have an SD card reader

  • Customers will only be able to save using external storage (flash drives, external hard drives, etc.) or a cloud service (Google Drive, Dropbox, etc.)

  • They do not allow for installing printer drivers which means customers will not be able to print from a home printer, unless that printer is Wi-Fi capable

  • They only run on the Chrome operating system. They cannot connect to wireless printing if they are being used in the library

  • Customer (or parent/legal guardian if under 18) must sign an agreement form to check them out





Borrowing Policies

  • Customers must sign the Borrowing Policy and Agreement [PDF] before borrowing a Chromebook for the first time.

  • Loan Period: Check out for seven days

  • Checkout Fee: Free

  • Checkout Limit: One per customer

  • Overdue Fees: $3 per day; maximum late fee: $12

  • Renewals: Chromebooks can be renewed if no holds are pending

  • Holds: Chromebooks can be requested through the catalog and you will be notified when the laptop arrives at your branch. Holds are canceled if they are not picked up within seven days of notification

  • Returns: Chromebooks can be returned to any branch but they must be returned to a library staff member at a service desk: They cannot be returned through a book drop. 

  • Replacement Costs: There are various components included with a Chromebook laptop and the damage or replacement costs are:

    • Charger: $30

    • Device damage: $40

    • Device replacement: $386

    • Case: $17

    • All (device, charger and case): $433
