About BCPL's Teacher Loan Library Card...

Helping educators to help kids is a part of why we're here and why we offer a special library card for teachers and educators.  We are eager to share materials with your students or groups and we think you will find that our policies make this process easy and convenient.

What are the benefits of a Teacher Loan Card?

The Teacher Loan card makes it easier than ever for you to bring the resources of the library to your students!

Here are the basics:

  • Teacher Loan library cards permit a six week loan period. This loan period also applies to InterLibrary Loan materials unless the lending library indicates otherwise.

  • No renewals are allowed.

  • DVDs, video games, Playaways, Playaway Views, and new adult fiction cannot be checked out to a Teacher Loan card.

  • Registration is annual; library cards expire August 31 of each year. Any problems or delinquencies on previous school or on personal cards must be resolved before a Teacher Loan card can be renewed or issued for the new school year.

  • No fees charged for overdue items or lost items.

  • For lost items, replacement cost and processing fees apply. For damaged items, charges are based on the extent of the damage up to and including the full cost of the material. A processing fee applies.

  • No charge for holds. If holds are not picked up, they will be subject to the $1.00 per item Not Picked Up (NPU) fee.

  • All other rules and procedures apply the same as with your personal library card. A librarian at the Information Desk can assist you with any questions about the use of the Teacher Loan card.

Who may apply for the Teacher Loan Card?

Media specialists and teachers at public and private/parochial schools and colleges located in Baltimore County, Baltimore County day care centers and child care providers, home school teachers (must be a Baltimore County residence) working with Baltimore County schools, and employees and volunteers of Baltimore County agencies or non-profit groups that organize book discussion groups or share library materials in groups for educational purposes. Non-profit organizations must be based in or have a facility in Baltimore County.  Personal library cards must be in good standing.
