Reisterstown Sportsplex (local interest)
Baltimore County’s premier sports facility, providing indoor recreation leagues, lessons and open skating for family entertainment.  It is located at the end of I-795 in the Reisterstown Regional Park.  This facility houses a 200 x 85 foot NHL ice rink and a 180 x 80 foot indoor soccer/lacrosse field with state of the art artificial turf. Offers public and private indoor ice skating, ice hockey leagues, indoor soccer leagues, karate, field hockey, drop-in dodgeball, and more.

Special Olympics Maryland (local interest)
A statewide year-round sports program for Maryland's children and adults with mental retardation and/or closely related developmental disabilities.

Special Olympics Maryland: Baltimore County (local interest)
Offers year-round sports training and athletic competition in a variety of Olympic-type sports.

Baltimore County Senior Center Information and Activities (local interest)
Located throughout Baltimore County, the senior centers offer programs, a wide variety of activities and services for county residents age 60 and older and their spouses. Here one can learn to line dance, to use a computer, paint a picture, cycle with other seniors, discuss contemporary issues, travel or attend other special events.

Maryland State Fairgrounds Year Round Events (local interest)
Covering over 100 acres, the Maryland State Fair is held in late August in Timonium Maryland and features concerts, 4H events, home and garden shows, a midway filled with rides and games, and hosts more than a half-million visitors each year. Also called the Northern Central Railroad Trail or N C R T, this twenty mile trail is used for  hiking, jogging, bicycle riding and horseback riding. It extends from Hunt Valley in Baltimore County to the Pennsylvania state line. Access to fishing is available.

Horse Racing

Maryland Jockey Club (local interest)
Home of the Preakness Stakes, the middle race of the Triple Crown. Links to Laurel Park and Pimlico, the second oldest racetrack in the United States.

Maryland Racing Commission (local interest)
Oversees and regulates both the harness and thoroughbred horse racing industry in Maryland. Find listing of Maryland race tracks, satellite simulcast betting facilities, breeding statistics and more.

Maryland Steeplechasing (local interest)
The first recognized steeplechase race was run at Pimlico in 1873, and the racing tradition continues with events such as My Lady's Manor, the Marlborough Hunt Races, the Grand National Steeplechase, the Maryland Hunt Cup, the Junior Hunt Cup, and the Potomac Hunt Races, among others.

Shawan Downs (local interest)
An equestrian center and steeplechase course and home of the Legacy Chase is located in northern Baltimore County.

Located in the Greenspring Valley region of Baltimore County, Irvine provides programs for Baltimore-area schools and the public about the environment, ecology and natural history of Maryland. Plan a visit.
