Baltimore County Public Library's Magazine and Newspaper Databases (local interest)
Search for a subject in magazine articles, newspapers, encyclopedias, and many other special databases. Several are geared to students in Kindergarten to twelfth grades. Use public computers in our libraries or a home computer with a valid library card registered with Baltimore County Public Library.

Finding and Evaluating Electronic News Sources (local interest)
"While the Web has great potential as an information source, it also has its pitfalls. Unlike traditional newspapers which need large circulations to operate profitably, Web sites often serve small audiences, whose members have similar interests and/or attitudes. They can afford to be less balanced in the information they provide. Be careful not to only visit sites that repeat to you what you already think. Get multiple perspectives!" Weather Emergency Information

Baltimore County Cooling Centers [PDF] (local Interest)
When Baltimore County declares a heat emergency, the Essex, Lansdowne and Parkville Senior Centers become "cooling centers" for the public with extended hours until 8 P.M. During the months of May to September, all Baltimore County Senior Centers are open to the public Monday through Friday from 8:30 A.M. to 4:30 P.M. for relief from the heat. You can also cool off Monday through Saturday at your closest Baltimore County Public Library. The Rosedale and Towson libraries are open Sundays 1 P.M. to 5 P.M.

Baltimore County Office of Homeland Security and Emergency Management (local interest)
Gives personal and community preparedness information in the event a disaster strikes the Baltimore region. Baltimore County does not have established evacuation routes. Precise evacuation routes will depend on the nature and location of the emergency. Monitor television and radio news for instructions from local authorities.
