InfoCenters (local interest)
Our librarians created the Web Resources – InfoCenters – as reliable starting points for finding information on subjects that are of interest to our users. We evaluate the quality and usefulness of each of the links we select and focus on local information when it is available. The content of each InfoCenter is not intended to be comprehensive and may change as additional sources become available. African American InfoCenter
Features the latest books about the black experience, homework sites on black history and
famous people, information on art and culture, health, business, black
colleges, media, local museums and attractions, and more.
Arts and Entertainment InfoCenter
Find worldwide and local
festivals and events, future concerts, and movies and reviews. Contains
local restaurant guides, theatre and music events, and museums and
galleries. Search for music lyrics and identify recorded music. Includes some seating charts for local
venues.
Business and Investing
InfoCenter
Covers local, national, international, and minority business.
Focuses on local resources for
business owners and for small business assistance. Links to our databases of
full-text articles on business topics, to company directories, and stock,
mutual fund, and industry investment details. Look into company annual
reports and S EC filings as well as facts on saving and investing in general.
Consumer InfoCenter
Find local emergency and non-emergency hotline numbers and special
transportation services. Covers frauds and scams, identity theft, local
complaint resolution and help with consumer issues, computer buying/disposal, general
and electronics recycling, and automobile buying, registration and
licensing. Special focus on local energy conservation, suppliers and rates,
green buildings and technology.
Education and Homework InfoCenter
Useful links
for several homework subjects. Focuses on local public and private schools
and colleges, service learning, financial aid/scholarships, G E D classes and
tests, S A T test preparation, local test proctoring sites, home schooling,
learning disabilities, after school programs, summer camps, tutors, and tips
on choosing a preschool or elementary school.
FastFacts InfoCenter (Reference)
Quickly look up brief biographies, calendars, calculators, dictionaries,
encyclopedias, telephone numbers, quotations, country or state facts, maps
and atlases, postal rates, ZIP codes, copyright facts, literary criticism, correct grammar and
common citation formats for research papers, the latest Maryland real estate
property ownership, sales price and assessment information, and more.

Services
Provides dial-up access to the Internet free of charge to Maryland residents
through
participating Maryland public libraries via a state-wide, toll-free
modem pool. Also, free Internet access and web site hosting for Maryland
state or local government, and Maryland public or private schools from
Kindergarten through twelfth grade.
