American Community Survey: Get
Data for Baltimore County (local interest)

An ongoing survey by the Bureau that updates data about
Baltimore County. It is designed to provide communities with a
fresh look at how they are changing between the decennial censuses. Its
questionnaire will replace the decennial long form in future censuses.
In December 2008, the Bureau provided estimates using 3 years of
data collected from 2005 to 2007 for geographic areas
with populations of 20,000 or more.

Baltimore County Cooling Centers (local interest)
During the months of May-September, Baltimore County Senior Centers are open
to the public Monday-Friday from 8:30 A M to 4:30 P M for relief from the
heat. When a heat emergency has been declared by Baltimore County, specific
Senior Centers below will open as “cooling centers” with extended hours
until 8 P M.
Baltimore County Emergency Operations Plan (local interest)
The County has an Emergency Operations Plan ( E O P )
that it implements in times of crisis, including natural disasters and
severe weather emergencies. The E O P is the basis for a coordinated response to any type of emergency or disaster that affects lives
and property in Baltimore County. As such, it defines the roles and
responsibilities of Baltimore County Government, private and volunteer
organizations, State and Federal agencies within the county.

The Community Assistance Network operates two winter shelters for Baltimore
County to help people in need. The shelters are open seven days a week from
November to April. Dinner and breakfast are served at both. The West
Side Emergency Shelter for homeless men runs is at a temporary location
until the spring of 2009 at 3000 Southwestern Boulevard, Arbutus Maryland
Phone 410-285-4674, Monday-Friday, 8:30 a.m.-4:30 p.m.. Use the #35 bus. The
shelter opens at 5 pm nightly and provide meals, showers, laundry, and case
management.. The East Side Shelter for homeless families or anyone with
children, couples and single women operates from November to June in the Eastern Family Resource Center
Building next to Franklin Square Hospital,
9100 Franklin Square Drive, Rosedale. It is served by bus lines 55, 35, 25
and 4. There is a bus stop in front of the building. It opens at 6 p.m.
