Forever Free: Abraham Lincoln's Journey to Emancipation

A national, traveling six-panel exhibition will be on display from Thursday, January 21 to Friday, March 5, 2010 during library hours at the Towson Branch of BCPL. The exhibition focuses on Lincoln's quest to restore a Union divided by Civil War through the use of reproductions of rare historical documents, period photographs, engravings, lithographs, cartoons and political ephemera.

The exhibit was organized by the Huntington Library, San Marino, CA and the Gilder Lehrman Institute of American History, New York City, in cooperation with the American Library Association Public Programs Office. It was funded by major grants from the National Endowment for the Humanities and the Abraham Lincoln Bicentennial Commission.

The Towson Library is a landmark building in the heart of Towson. Its expansive, contemporary, cement architecture, designed by Tatar & Kelly Architects, adds to its prominence. While the current Towson Library building was constructed in 1974, and expanded in 1990, the Towson Library dates back to 1936. An exterior renovation of the building was completed in Fall 1999.

Serving residents of the county seat, the Towson Library offers a full array of traditional programs and services for its diverse population, and an ever changing wealth of electronic resources for children and adults. The library also houses a rich collection of local historical maps and books for history buffs.
