About This Branch

History of the Catonsville Branch

The Catonsville Branch was dedicated in 1963 and features a full service library, the Catonsville History Room and a public meeting room. The beautiful children's courtyard mural, 24-hour book drop and quiet periodical room all play an integral part in making the Catonsville library the third busiest branch in Baltimore County.

Local History

The Catonsville Branch is situated on a historical landmark - Castle Thunder - which was the home of the Caton family, founders of Catonsville. The library maintains historical photographs of Catonsville, Oella, Winters Lane, and Edmondson Avenue via our historic Legacy Web photo collection. Additionally, you can find historic information on the Catonsville community via the following webpages:

The Catonsville Room is a collection of documents, photographs, news articles and family histories about Catonsville and the surrounding area. It is open on Thursdays from 2 to 5 p.m. and on the first Wednesday of each month from 7 p.m. to 8:45 p.m. Appointments accepted for in-depth research.
