In partnership with the U.S. Department of Agriculture and Baltimore County Public Schools, eight BCPL branches participated in a program to provide free lunches to children each weekday during summer months.
Baltimore County Public Library history dates back to 1948. In 2015, we commemorated the 50th anniversary of the North Point Branch with a day full of prizes, cake and 1960s-themed entertainment. Historic Dundalk murals were installed at North Point and unveiled at the anniversary.
This year the Foundation for BCPL continued to provide opportunities for literacy, reading enrichment and lifelong learning by financially supporting many BCPL programs, including Battle of the Books, Summer Reading Club and FutureMakers along with the ongoing maintenance of both Storyville locations. Funding to the Foundation is provided by corporate and individual donors along with proceeds from fundraising events. This year’s Taste of the Town fundraiser, featuring honorary host and author Katie Workman, welcomed more than 350 guests and raised over $50,000 to support the Foundation’s mission.
Fiscal Year 2015 was a busy one for BCPL. Baltimore County’s more than 800,000 residents made full use of our traditional and new services during 9.7 million visits to our 19 branches, four bookmobiles and virtual branch.
